"A puppeteer in isolation is never lonely." - My hand, in a conversation with myself Just wanted to express some feelings of gratitude, for all the unconventional theatre this year as we all learned to adapt and be safe. 2020 started for me with performing as emcee at the DPAC with my puppet Rose Gold, and then immediately having six shows cancelled, including some fun opportunities in Denver and overseas - then pivoting to two outdoor trail plays, a theatre style podcast, twelve virtual theatre plays, and three livestreamed shows. I performed in an alley in Denver at night, alongside snakes and deer and a bear at Bear Creek and Fountain Creek nature centers, at the MAT and SET for masked camera crews, and all the rest from just my living room couch. I got to play a goblin, a headless horseman, Mr. Hyde, a millennial puppet, a singing cowboy villain, and a cheeto addicted unicorn. Grateful for everyone who provided those opportunities (Katy Williams Design, Pandemic Collective, C19TRT, MAT, NTSOC, FAC, TW, TdA, SET, Ormao, JLT, TAB, CMHS, LA Puppet Guild, You May Clap Productions, Sofa Shakespeare) and grateful for the over 60 actors who jumped in with the shows I produced (cast and leaders of Dragon Theatre Productions in our eleventh year providing roles to any actor who can make the rehearsal commitment, COPPeR and COS theatre showcase leaders for our ArtsMonth showcase, cast and crew of Short Circuit: Science of Connection, and C19TRT who made it all possible). Grateful also for the virtual puppet, singing and tap lessons from RMPG, Victoria Lyrick Lipscomb, JLT and Ormao, and for my virtual puppet mentee who took classes with me. But especially and eternally grateful for every single friend and audience member who took time to see, appreciate, and value what we were able to create this year while trying to create art as safely as possible until we can perform together again -- which really can't be soon enough.
