This year I attended the Chicago International Puppet Theatre Festival and performed in two plays!
This whole experience of being in the Persians directed by Peter Schumann with Bread and Puppet has been a master class in community building. I wasn't sure what to expect for joining but we learned in two days what would have taken me weeks in other shows as fully integrated cast members with lines, choreography, and on stage the whole time in five different scenes as the Greek chorus performing five different puppets, including a structured freeform improv finale. Bread and Puppet is the largest most prestigious and historic theatre I've ever worked with and was told within one hour of working with them that I'm one of them now - just like everyone who works with them - and they open this opportunity for all (just like we do with Dragon Theatre!). I'm so impressed with their structure and the community they build everywhere they go and with this whole experience and I've learned so much I'm excited to carry forward!
